The person responsible for performing the surgical procedure was the physician and also military Major General Andrew Willow. This is one of the most renowned surgeons in the country and managed to prove his ability after this unprecedented procedure. Furthermore, the act also demonstrated the courage of this professional, who put the soldier's health at the forefront.
That's because the grenade was still active in the soldier's chest throughout the surgery, which means that, at any moment, there could be an explosion. Even the fact that she was active prevented the medical team from being able to perform electrocoagulation, which is the recommended procedure for surgeries and which helps to stop bleeding.
In a post on your Facebook, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Hanna Maliar, shared the impressive photo of the VOG-25 type grenade in the chest of the soldier. In the message, the deputy minister said she was "in shock", however, to everyone's relief, shortly afterwards the Ukrainian authorities confirmed that the intervention was successful.
The VOG-25 is a very common ammunition nowadays and used mainly for drone attacks. Despite its small size, it is quite lethal, as it is a grenade with a range of 400 meters away. In addition, it can also be attached to rifles, which can make it even more lethal.
Until then, there is no news of how this ammunition ended up in the soldier's chest, although we know that he was in a confrontation in the war against Russia. In addition, it is possible to find descriptions of the ammunition on the website of a Russian state company that exports these military articles to different parts of the world. At least the intervention went well!
