A China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) announced that the country achieved a new world record by replacing a section of a railway bridge in a few hours, without disrupting normal railway service.
According to the CRCC, this feat surpassed the previous record of about 12 hours. The company stated that there is nothing like it in the world and highlighted that the bridge replacement work was carried out during a period when the railway was not in use.

This achievement demonstrates China's efficiency and technological capabilities in the field of rail infrastructure. Using an intelligent machine called Taihang, named after the Taihang Mountains that separate the north and central China, unprecedented efficiencies have been achieved in the bridge.
Taihang is a foldable device that can be transported on rails and, as explained by Wu Jingpeng, engineer senior design officer at the China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group, it can be “transformed” into the local.
This technological innovation was fundamental to the success of the bridge replacement process in a record time of just four hours, without interruption of the regular rail service.
According to CRCC, in addition to being highly efficient, the machine is also the world's first railway bridge replacement machine. Its debut was replacing a worn-out section of the bridge located on the ShuoHuang Railway Line in North China's Hebei Province.
By the end of 2022, China had an operational length of 155,000 kilometers on its national railways. Many of these existing railway lines have been in use for many years, some more than a century old, surpassing their 50-year service life.
According to the company, more than 40% of the railway bridges in the country have been used for over 30 years.
