In recent weeks, a 100% increase in the value of food stamps public servants became a topic of discussion in Congress. President Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) proposal sought to compensate for the salary adjustments that were not complied with by the government, and thus manage to expand its supporter base in civil service. However, the secretary of the National Treasury, Paulo Valle, recently denied the measure.

Federal civil servants, since the end of last year, have been making a series of demands in relation to the recomposition of inflationary losses. Now, the friction between this class and the current government should reach new proportions, because, according to Valle, the increase will not occur. “It has already been announced that there will be no increase this year and there will also be no increase in food vouchers. It has already been decided within the scope of the Budget Execution Board”, said the secretary.
The president had promised an increase in wages for workers in the security sector, such as police officers. After pressure from civil servants, in April there was a discussion about a 5% readjustment in their salaries, with the objective of mitigating the impact of inflation. However, most servers were against it, since, in 2021, the increase in product prices already reached 11%.
Some bodies, such as the INSS and the Central Bank, also registered complaints and strikes, all motivated by low wages. Even so, the representative stated that there was no possibility of giving the readjustment. “Point me where there is money and I'll give you the readjustment now. Is the solution to go on strike? (...) It's no use putting the knife to the neck. It doesn’t,” the president told his supporters.
As a result, Bolsonaro raised the idea of readjusting the value of food vouchers, which was also not very well seen by the servers, since many considered the proposal disrespectful. He also reported that the government avoided a wage cut at the time of the pandemic, as private network workers had discounts on wages due to the reduction in the workday.
