MIT researchers develop REVOLUTIONARY air conditioning based on sustainable technology

In a significant breakthrough for the refrigeration industry, scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a innovative device capable of reducing the temperature environments in a sustainable way.

Unlike traditional air conditioners, this new device operates without the need for electricity, reducing both the impact on the user's pocket and the damage to the environment environment.

How does this air conditioner work?

The device's design is similar to a solar energy plate, and it has three layers, each playing a key role in the cooling process.

The lower layer acts as a reflector of solar rays, minimizing the thermal impact of radiation.

Then, the middle one is composed of hydrogel, a water-based spongy material, heated by reflected sunlight. This material then evaporates, significantly lowering the ambient temperature.

The last, top layer is made of airgel, a solid and gaseous compound that is 99.98% air. Thus, it works as a thermal insulator, blocking the passage of heat.

In tests carried out by the MIT researchers, the device demonstrated a remarkable ability to drop the temperature by up to 9.3°C.

However, one of the challenges to be overcome is the fact that the hydrogel needs to be replenished with some frequency to ensure the proper functioning of the device.

Despite the success achieved in the laboratory, the commercialization of the device may take some time, mainly due to the availability of airgel in the market.

This compound is a crucial element for the functioning of the device and still faces challenges in relation to large-scale production.

In addition to providing a more comfortable environment for users, the device represents a more sustainable option, as it does not require electricity and does not emit gases that are harmful to the greenhouse effect.

The expectation is that, with the continuous advancement of research and the growing interest in technologies sustainable, new solutions may soon emerge to enable the production and distribution of this innovative device.

Meanwhile, the MIT study represents a promising step toward a brighter future. ecological, in which technology and comfort can walk side by side, without compromising the environmental balance.
