Last Tuesday (1st), the YouTube officially announced news for Shorts. Now, the short video platform will have more editing tools and features for live streams. The update increases competition with the TikTok and Reels, from Instagram.
The main reasons for the changes are to continue stimulating the creativity and visibility of content creators.

Because of this, the developers have released new editing features and a remix tool called Collab. It is available for recording videos in “side by side” format.
Another point of interest for improvement is that Shorts recently surpassed 50 billion views. It is a significant increase when compared to the year 2022, but it is still far from the main competitors.
The official statement made it clear that such changes are a way for many communities to be created in Shorts, in a fun and more modern way.
Thus, the update offers news and features that are already very popular on other social networks. TikTok, for example, already allowed editing with other sound and video productions on the platform.

collab tool
It's a new creation feature that allows recordings with other videos available on both YouTube and Shorts.
Basically, users can remix the videos. To produce content in this format, you just need to click on “Remix” and choose the “Collab” option in your YouTube Shorts profile.
Effects and stickers update
Also new are the new effects and stickers to optimize the production of content creators. A “Q&A” feature will be launched soon, similar to instagram question box.
Vertical live streams
The vertical live transmission is in the testing phase. However, the platform wants to make the feature available for mobile devices. So the YouTube will reconcile this new update with the subscription service.
The idea is to encourage creators to go live with a few taps after identifying the vertical position. Also, provide Super Chat, Super Stickers and channel subscriptions.
Release date for YouTube Shorts updates
In a note, the platform reported that the lives and the Collab tool have already been made available since August 1st. But for now, other features are still without official release date.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that updates are being made first on iOS devices and then on smartphones and devices using Android.
