Giant roosters that are “worth gold”

Indian-Giant roosters can grow over a meter tall and weigh around eight kilos, in contrast with the traditional ones, which are usually a few centimeters high and weigh a maximum of three kilos.

Its diet is similar to that of other chickens, always based on grass and corn. They have distinctive features such as long legs with yellower shins, much larger feathers than other breeds, and a rounder carcass with a thick beak.

Because of their size and unique characteristics, these species can be quite expensive. Breeders usually sell them for around R$6,000, while the eggs of the breed can cost up to R$1,000 a dozen.

In some cases, the value can be even more surprising. In 2020, for example, a rooster of the Índio-Gigante breed was sold for an impressive R$ 154,000 in the city of Guareí, in São Paulo, which demonstrates the high interest in these rare animals.

Leonardo Pontini, a breeder from Vargem Alta, in the south of Espírito Santo, is an example of an enthusiast of the breed. He has bred Indian-Giant roosters since 2006 and describes his birds as docile despite their impressive size.

The origin of this creation goes back to Minas Gerais and São Paulo, where the species began to gain notoriety.

The Indian-Giant birds attract attention for their magnificence and are known for their significant value, even receiving the nickname “golden eggs”.

With its unique characteristics and rarity, this species of domestic bird continues to fascinate breeders and enthusiasts, becoming a curiosity in the poultry world.
