Species is known for its beauty and preference for avocados.
An icon of Central America's highland forests, the quetzal, considered by many observers to be the most beautiful bird in the world, is not an easy species to find. The largest population resides in Costa Rica and lives most of the year deep in the forest.
But, between the months of March and June, the chances of seeing this jewel of the forest are greater. It is the breeding season, when the species vocalizes more facilitating the encounter. Also, wild avocado trees and other fruits from trees in the laurel family are producing. This is the favorite food of quetzals.
