The project, which will function as a competition, will award prizes of up to US$ 20 million, approximately R$ 98 million, for those who develop the best systems for the US infrastructure.
The AI Cyber Challenge is supported by the government agency Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This US institution was structured to combine research and military knowledge in favor of the country's security.
During the “Black Hat USA 2023” event, the US agency announced the call for top technology talent.
Because of the program, the most important big techs in the world decided to open and share their language codes.
According to the White House, the AI Cyber Challenge will aim to identify and correct software vulnerabilities. The big challenge will be to create defenses for the cyber infrastructure.
“In an increasingly interconnected world, software underpins everything from financial systems to public services,” said Perri Adams, manager of DARPA.
For him, the advancement of technology increases productivity and it is positive for the needs of modern life. However, the same technology also generates environments conducive to cyber attacks against the country's security.
To achieve the cybersecurity goal, Americans will select top AI experts. Even the “Black Hat USA 2023” event was the first step in the selection process.

At first, the US agency will share cutting-edge technologies and knowledge. Likewise, "Anthropic, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI will collaborate with DARPA to enable competitors to develop state-of-the-art cybersecurity systems," DARPA said.
The entire final leg will be held in Las Vegas for years to come. Thus, the teams will participate in a classification process in 2024 to define who is still in the competition of up to US$ 20 million. Afterwards, the top five teams go to the final stage, which takes place in 2025, at “DEF CON”.
Ultimately, Adams believes the AI Cyber Challenge is an opportunity to showcase the benefits of Artificial Intelligence to society.
