Kaelin, a professor at the Sidney Farber Institute at Harvard Medical School and a researcher at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute, will address the theme “How Mammalian Cells Detect and Respond to Oxygen (and My Unlikely Journey to Stockholm)".
The lecture is a collaborative effort between the Dean of Research and Innovation (PRPI) of USP and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The event will take place at the Rebouças Convention Center and is scheduled to take place from 10 am to 11:30 am.
Kaelin had her work recognized in 2019, sharing the Nobel Prize in Medicine with Peter Ratcliffe and Gregg Semenza.
The research that brought him to this point explores the mechanistic understanding of how mutations that affect tumor suppressor genes lead to the development of cancer. cancer.
The study also shed light on how cells detect and adapt to changes in oxygen levels, with implications not only for cancer but also for other conditions such as anemia, heart attacks and strokes.
