Why do soap and detergent remove grease?

Soaps and detergents can remove greasy stains because they act as emulsifiers, that is, they allow fats and water to mix and be removed during washing. The action of these products is only possible because they are formed by molecules that have a double characteristic.

Part of the molecules, which make up soap and detergent, are attracted to fats, while the other part is attracted to water. Thus, they interact with fats and water at the same time, making both substances mix and grease stains can be removed by the degreasing action of these products.
