Store generates controversy by charging R$30 for customers to prepare 'noodles'

A Rappa Ramen store goes viral for charging up to R$30 for customers to make their own “Ramen noodles”. This had a major impact on the establishment's service.

The idea for the business was created by entrepreneur Sérgio Min Su Lee, 32 years old, and began operating in March this year. After going viral, the place started serving around 100 customers a day on weekends, even forming queues.

However, there was also a negative effect due to the amount charged for the dish prepared by the customer. Sérgio reinforces to the public that the shock is the result of the consumer's lack of understanding about the quality of the product and the structured process for service.

Understand more details about the preparation process

According to the entrepreneur, this style of meal was based on convenience stores Koreans. Such stores allow the customer to make and consume the dish in their own space, which generates several costs such as packaging, cutlery, water and energy.

Prices vary depending on the ingredients selected, for example, a dish made with national ramen noodles costs around R$15. Preparation with foreign products costs a little higher, starting at R$20.

The foreign product made in the store is “Korean noodles” with dehydrated seasonings in sachets. Accompaniments can also be added such as egg, cheese, kimchi, kani and sausage.

The Rappa Ramen store is located in the Liberdade neighborhood, in the capital of São Paulo, and went viral with this type of service in a video posted on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter).

According to the founder: “Our style is niche. We know we won’t please everyone”, thus reinforcing that the idea aims to reach a specific audience.

Go and prepare your own ramen noodles

For those interested, the establishment is open from 11am to 6pm from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday. Furthermore, for those who live nearby, there is the option of ordering delivery of the dish via site from the store.

Rappa Ramen has increasingly attracted attention and attracted customers to have the experience of making their own dish. Also take the opportunity to learn a little more and understand why a meal like this can cost more than R$30.
