The story was narrated by Abi Caswell, the baker who committed the faux pas. According to her, the bakery didn't know that they needed to put the blue icing inside the cake.
So, when the mother went to pick up the order, she discovered that she was pregnant with a boy, due to the color of the icing.
On the web, many people were outraged by the report, but the failure was not caused by inexperience. See how what Caswell considers “the biggest mistake of my career so far” happened.
Caswell says the day was going perfectly well, until she started make a cake with blue coverage that should have the following phrase at the top: “Arriving in February 2024”.
The order was produced normally, but when the customer came to pick up the order, the whole situation became embarrassing.
“The blue should only be on the inside. And who took the cake? None other than the future mother. So we 100% ruined the gender reveal for her,” Caswell said.
In short, everything happened due to a communication failure within the bakery. To the Business Insider news portal, the baker reported that the cake order was made by a friend of the pregnant woman.
However, the request did not specify that the cake was part of the event's reveal and that the blue or pink icing should only be on the inside of the cake.

Therefore, the employee “assumed it would be a gender reveal party, not necessarily that [the cake] would be a gender reveal party.”
For Abi Caswell, the error occurred due to a problem in the order description. However, the company is still responsible for the sad situation that affected the future mother.
Even knowing the surprise ahead of time, the baby's mother wasn't mad, said the entrepreneur. “I told her how sorry we were and she cried with us. And she was very, very kind. She understood”, emphasizes the pastry chef.
Finally, the client declared that the situation “will be a story” to be told in the future. To apologize, the bakery remade the cake with white icing and offered cakes for the rest of the unborn child's life.
