The city of Kumamoto in southern Japan is seeking an innovative approach to combat high school dropout rates that have increased in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The proposal involves the use of robots as student representatives during online classes. This will allow students to participate in classes and interact with their peers even when they cannot be physically present at school.
The increase in school absences in Japan is related to issues such as anxiety, difficulties in social integration in the group and cases of
bullying. These problems have affected student attendance at schools.The use of remotely controlled robots offers a technological solution to mitigate these problems, ensuring that students do not miss learning opportunities due to emotional or social.
The idea of using technology to combat the rise in school absences is not exclusive to Japan. Other countries have also explored similar solutions.
