A dive into the past of the largest floodplain in the world, this is the trip proposed by “Pantanal: origins of a paradise”. The recently released book brings together beautiful photographs, maps and historical images to introduce the reader to the region's original people and how the Pantanal landscape was formed. Written by historians Maria de Fátima Costa and Pablo Diener, the book is supported by Documenta Pantanal.
The work goes from the emergence of the Pantanal, its geography, fauna and flora to the first records of human presence in the biome, the indigenous people and, in a more recent past, the first expeditions scientific. “This is the world we know as the Pantanals”, say the authors of the book, who highlight the rich diversity of the Pantanal.
