Esporte Educa's mission is to connect athletes to scholarship opportunities that align with their aspirations and abilities, providing a significant boost to the sport and the education.
The idea for the startup came from the experience of Ivan Ballesteros, 31, as a professional football player. He witnessed his peers facing educational challenges due to lack of resources and neglect from clubs.
Often, the focus was just on whether they could be sold for large sums. Ballesteros, who played for São Paulo clubs Nacional and Matonense, decided to act.
Teammates did not dedicate themselves to their studies due to the lack of financial resources and the lack of interest from the clubs. Ballesteros accumulated experience in sports marketing and at a higher education institution before founding the startup.
Initially, Esporte Educa focused on higher education, but later redirected its focus to basic education, due to greater economic coverage.
Furthermore, the greater social impact of helping children compared to young people who no longer believed in sporting opportunities also played a role.
Esporte Educa offers scholarships at private schools for children and teenagers aged 10 to 23, with percentages ranging from 10% to 100% depending on the student's profile.
Additionally, the startup sells specific courses for athletes, such as public speaking, basic English in sports, contractual notions and artificial intelligence, with on-demand access for R$39.90 per month.
In almost three years of operation, the startup received R$150,000 in investments, benefiting 540 athletes, 80 of whom graduated from basic education.
Esporte Educa generated a profit of R$3 million for partner institutions and awarded more than R$4 million in scholarships. With the recent investment, the company plans to open more than 3 thousand registrations next year.
With this, the initiative will be expanded to the Northeast and Amazonas, increasing its team from 8 to 13 employees and investing in marketing.
Furthermore, Esporte Educa has plans to develop additional products, such as financing, to reach an even wider audience.
