The recent discovery of a perfectly preserved children's shoe has added yet another layer to the rich history and destroyed heritage associated with the Dürrnberg region.
According to Professor Thomas Stoellner, head of the research department responsible for the find, the shoe 2,000-year-old child discovered in recent excavations at the mine is in an exceptional condition conservation.
This is due to the high levels of salt in the region, which prevented the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms very well, guaranteeing the physical condition of the artifacts in a remarkable way.

The shoes are made of leather and feature traces of a linen cord. An analysis of the shoe's last suggests that it was probably manufactured during the 2nd century BC. W.
Although leather shoes have previously been found in Dürrnberg, this discovery remarkably confirms the presence of children in underground mining activities for millennia.
In addition to the children's shoe, excavations revealed other intriguing artifacts. Among them, archaeologists identified the fragment of a wooden shovel and remains of a leather garment with a bow. According to researchers, this piece of leather was probably part of a hood.
These additional finds add new archaeological data, providing valuable clues about tools, clothing and objects used by people who worked and lived in the area two years ago. millennia.
