The great booby spends most of its time at sea in search of food and usually feeds during the day. The diet consists mainly of fish and squid. The species generally nests on small, flat, treeless islands. The nest is made on cliff edges or in flat areas that allow easy take-off, forming small and medium-sized colonies.
Found in all oceans, preferably in the tropical zone. In Brazil, there are populations in the Abrolhos archipelago, Rocas Atoll, Fernando de Noronha and Trindade Island.
