According to the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), such small dots are, in fact, the beginning of the rotting process.
For safe consumption of the vegetable, it must be white or cream in color, without any dark spots. If it has leaves, they still need to be green and alive, with no sign of wilting.
When the vegetable is past its prime, it becomes split and shriveled, with these black dots “popping”. If the leaves are yellow, you also need to pay attention.
Other signs of rot are: mold or excessive holes. These are all signs that the food is past its prime.
In order to maintain this vegetable for longer and thus prevent blackheads from appearing, you can take some precautions!
When you bring it from the market, place it with the leaves in plastic bags in the vegetable drawer or in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. With this method, you can increase its useful life by up to a week and a half, without any signs of rot.
Furthermore, it is possible to freeze cauliflower, especially if you don't have a deadline to consume it. Just wash it under running water, dry it well and store it in jars with lids.
To use it, just thaw it and make your own. revenue favorite, preferably leaving it to freeze in the highest part of the refrigerator. Also check that black dots do not appear during this period.
