The tireless search for source of youth has led scientists to explore all possible fronts, and a new and intriguing path has emerged: analyzing the blood of centenarians.
A recent study, published in the journal GeroScience in September, sheds light on the secrets of longevity by examining the blood biomarkers of exceptional individuals.

Researchers took a deep dive into analyzing the blood biomarkers of centenarians and younger people, revealing interesting patterns.
Based on information from 44,000 Swedes who underwent health assessments over decades, the research explored the connection between these biomarkers and the likelihood of living to 100 years old.
The study followed the lives of participants aged 64 to 99 over 35 years. Among them, 2.7% lived to the remarkable milestone of 100 years.
The research evaluated twelve blood biomarkers related to health, inflammation, metabolism and more, all linked to aging and mortality.
The secret? Centenarians demonstrated lower levels of glucose, creatinine and uric acid from age 60 onwards.
Although the median values were not significantly different from those of non-centenarians for most biomarkers, the centenarians they rarely presented extremes.
The research also raises the question of clinical guidelines based on younger populations.

Although the study cannot conclude exactly which genes or lifestyle habits are behind these biomarkers, scientists suggest that factors such as nutrition and alcohol consumption play a role important.
Constant monitoring of the health of kidneys, liver, glucose and uric acid throughout life may be fundamental to healthy longevity.
In addition to analyzing biomarkers, researchers in the USA revealed that certain habits can add precious years to your life expectancy. Among them are:
Healthy eating;
Quality sleep;
Regular exercise;
Stress control;
Moderation in alcohol consumption;
Abstinence from smoking;
Healthy social relationships;
Opioid withdrawal.
As science unravels the secrets of longevity, we are increasingly closer to understanding how to achieve a long and healthy life.
As they continue their search for answers, we can incorporate healthy habits to ensure a longer and more rewarding journey.
