The Bolsa Família program is an essential pillar of social assistance policies of Brazil, including various types of benefits with specific values to support families in vulnerable situations.
Such benefits include the Citizenship Income Benefit (BRC), worth R$142 per person in the family, and the Benefit Complementary (BCO), an additional payment designed to ensure that the sum of benefits reaches at least R$600 per family.
In addition, the program includes the First Childhood Benefit (BPI), which offers an extra R$150 for children aged zero to seven.
The Family Variable Benefit (BVF) is an increase of R$50 for pregnant women and children and adolescents between the ages of 7 and 18.
Another important benefit is the Nursing Family Variable Benefit (BVN), which grants an additional R$50 per family member with up to seven months incomplete (nursing mother). Transfers of this credit began in September.
Furthermore, the program covers the Extraordinary Transition Benefit (BET), applied in situations specific measures to ensure that no beneficiary receives less than they received under the previous program, the Brazil Aid. BET will be paid until May 2025.
To qualify for Bolsa Família, families need to meet requirements related to health and education, as well as being within the social vulnerability profile, with per capita income (per person) of up to R$ 218.
This includes school attendance for children and adolescents, prenatal care for pregnant women, checking children's nutritional status and adherence to the national vaccination calendar.
This anticipation of the Bolsa Família payment schedule aims to provide more financial relief early to the beneficiary families, enabling them to receive help to honor their commitments.
