The work aimed exclusively at the possibility of designing robots from scratch, using the following command to generate the model: “design a robot capable of walking on a flat surface”.
With this description, the AI used was able to produce a simple 3D mold that could be filled with liquid silicone.
The main difference seen during design is that the generated automaton does not resemble models usually seen in projects.
This one has a simpler operation, without wires or chips, the project uses “air muscles”, which expand according to the air intake and perform the small movements of the three legs of the robot.
The entire printing process lasted just 26 seconds, thus guaranteeing extreme speed in production.
According to information from the professor of robotics and AI from Northwestern, Sam Kriegman, the novelty breaks barriers for known problems.
It simplifies composition with AI and makes it possible to perform it without the use of supercomputers.
Furthermore, the model created by technology breaks the common barrier, as the walking robot does not follow any pattern seen in the past. In other words, it does not adopt any existing animal model or similar to those already made by human beings.
