Researchers make big and IMPRESSIVE discovery in Egypt; know more

In the province of Minya, in southern Egypt, archaeologists made an Stunning discovery at Tuna El-Gebel necropolis.

They unearthed a cemetery that belongs to the New Kingdom period of Ancient Egypt, revealing several historical relics, such as mummies, ornaments, amulets and even 15-meter-long papyri that contained copies of the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

Inside this cemetery, which is approximately 3,400 years old, coffins were also found with inscriptions of the names of two women.

The Tuna El-Gebel necropolis is situated in Al-Ghuraifa, about 220 kilometers south of the capital Cairo, according to the recent announcement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiques from Egypt.

This archaeological site is associated with the period in which Egypt consolidated itself as a global power, spanning the 16th centuries BC. W. to XI a. W.

This moment in the history of Ancient Egypt includes the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasty, covering a period of time from 1549 to. W. to 1069 a. W.

The necropolis also houses the remains of priests and other high-ranking state officials, buried in several tombs carved into the rock, resulting in a true treasure of antiques.

Among the items unearthed are elaborate jewelry, sarcophagi made of stone and wood, amulets and a collection of shabti statues made of clay and wood.

A particularly significant discovery was that of the first intact papyrus found in Al-Ghuraifa, relating to the Book of the Dead, a fundamental text of Egyptian mythology.

Mostafa Waziri, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), indicated that initial analyzes suggest the papyrus is about 15 meters long.

Waziri also highlighted that the New Kingdom cemetery was a seven-year search, and the result came from excavations that began in August.

It is relevant to mention that the Al-Ghuraifa region was first identified in 1925 and, since then, It became famous for its numerous archaeological discoveries, including 35 tombs, 90 coffins and 10,000 statues.
