A recent announcement made by National Social Security Institute (INSS) confirmed new changes to disability retirement rules. From now on, there is no mandatory minimum age to apply for the benefit. The change is intended to increase the number of people who can benefit from disability aid in the coming months.
To understand the new changes, it is necessary to understand the different groups of policyholders that the benefit has. There are those who receive the aid on a temporary basis, due to health conditions that will recover over the months. In addition to them, there is the group entitled to permanent disability benefits due to the inability to return to work. It is for this last group that the new measure will be applied.

Therefore, the amount to be received by the insured is calculated based on the current minimum wage. Currently, monthly payments made to Brazilians are worth R$1,320. However, with the readjustment of the national minimum wage in 2024, expected at R$1,421, beneficiaries will receive an increase of R$101 in their benefits.
The modality based on contribution time ended in 2019, when Constitutional Amendment No. 103 determined new rules for the General Social Security Regime. Now, to request disability retirement, you need to understand which group the worker fits into.
In general, policyholders have two options. The first is through the Meu INSS application, making the request online. The second way is to contact the INSS via telephone 135, where policyholders can schedule a visit to the nearest agency, if necessary.
Remembering that you will need to undergo an INSS medical examination, proving the conditions that give you the right to sickness benefit and retirement. To do this, medical documents proving the illness, certificates, reports, prescriptions and exams may be presented, as announced by Agência Brasil.
