What is the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?

At first, the diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by increased blood glucose levels. In this case, it occurs due to a lack of or resistance to insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates sugar in cells.

There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Therefore, in type 1 diabetes, the immune system inhibits glycemic control. This condition begins in childhood and requires daily injections, due to the body's natural resistance. The second variation is the result of a sedentary lifestyle, family history and poor diet.

Understand the risks of salt shakers for type 2 diabetes

According to a study published in the academic journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, the salt shaker proved to be a risk factor in the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. That said, 13,000 diabetic patients were evaluated, which revealed certain customs.

For example, a portion of respondents answered ‘’never’’ and ‘’rarely’’ to the question ‘’do you add salt to your main meals?’’. On the other hand, there were many answers marked with ‘’sometimes’’, ‘’usually’’ and ‘’always’’. These results revealed people who were 13%, 20% and 39% more likely to get sick.

How much salt can a person consume per day?

For this reason, it is necessary to exercise moderation, depending on age, weight, health status and routine. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that salt consumption does not exceed 5 grams per day, that is, one teaspoon.

It is worth remembering that ready-made sauces, sausages and ultra-processed ingredients tend to contain a lot of sodium. Therefore, be sure to check the nutritional information and other warnings on the label when choosing products on the market.
