5 Year History Activities - Reading Pictures

The objective is not to ask a superficial question about the question of the “invasion” or discovery, but work on the issue of lack of documentation, which in this case is written documentation, and consider oral and material history and the lack of work with Archeology.

Thus, the teacher should not only debate such a controversial subject, but objectively discuss the issue of using historical sources as official documents.

It is recommended that the teacher also use other illustrations to carry out the activity.

Step by step 5 year history activities:

1. Discuss the content of the images and what they “seek” to portray;
2.
Discuss with students, trying to ask them about two basic questions:

  • When did Brazil's history really start?
  • Why do history books only begin to tell the history of Brazil after the arrival of the Portuguese?

museum of the person

Procedures

  • Read the text “How to make a museum of the person”;
  • Ask students to select written documents that represent you, represent your history (can be Birth Certificate, ID Card, Vaccination Card, School Transcript, letters);
  • Build a small script of questions to be asked to parents, siblings, grandparents and/or uncles, who seek deal with birth stories, personal stories, which may be prior to the birth of the student;
  • Ask them to look for photos/videos of your life so far;
  • They must select documents, build a collection, and expose their “official history” to classmates, always emphasizing the reasons for choosing that document;
  • The teacher must see the best way to present the work in the classroom, whether through a mural, oral presentation or a diary.

Information for the teacher

  • This is one of the simplest and most classic activities for the historian, but it is often rejected because it is too “childish”. However, many students grow up without the dimension of their own history, of their ancestors.
  • It should be clear that, through this activity, the student is developing knowledge of their history; creates bonds of belonging with the room, with relatives, with himself; creates links with the space to which it belongs;
  • Creates links to your origins; it gets the student used to rethinking their history; he starts to understand he is history and builds history, he is a modifying agent of his surroundings (as his parents) and of himself; develops the habit of researching and selecting varied historical documents.

Home Activities (Task) History 5 year

Time

  • As you already know, we can only consider the story true when we are able to record it. From the record it is possible to compare, analyze, understand and design.
  • Let's record a little of your family history?
  • You will use two types of records: the verbal report and photos or objects.

1) Report.

a) Ask your family what the clothes for swimming in the sea were like, in the time of your grandparents or great-grandparents. Don't forget to note the season!

b) Did children go to the beach with adults?

c) What is the difference between your grandparents' or great-grandparents' swimwear and your parents'?

2) Now let's document.

a) Ask for photos from the time of your grandparents and great-grandparents. Record the date, location, etc.

b) Ask for pictures of your parents, also in bathing suits.

c) Make a short report comparing the differences between the seasons.

Adventurous

Imagine that you live in Portugal, in the year 1500. He will board a squadron, which will depart Lisbon on 9 March. Record the “trip” in a logbook.

1) Who is the commander of this squad and where is it going?

2) Before reaching its final destination, the squadron will arrive at another place, still unknown by the Europeans. What is this place?

3) Now, think that the ships are in the middle of their journey, in the ocean.
What problems are you facing?
