Just like in September and October, a “heat bubble” will also influence temperatures in the coming days. Due to this, hot air is trapped in an area of high pressure, causing temperatures to rise even further in certain regions. Forecasts indicate that temperatures will reach up to 32 °C in the central region of the country next week.
“Temperature values that should be reached next week and around the middle of this month in central Brazil could be absurdly high and at levels never seen in hundreds to thousands of Brazilian cities”, said MetSul in a statement disclosed.
The Midwest and Southeast will be the most affected in this new wave, as they are closest to the heat dome. Thus, the extreme heat will initially reach some areas of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, in addition to the interior of São Paulo. By the weekend, the warm air mass will begin to reach new areas.
From Saturday (11), maximum temperatures will exceed 40 °C in several cities. In the Central-West and in some parts of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, maximum temperatures can reach 44 °C. IN some cities, the heat it could reach 46 °C, as in Cuiabá (MT).
Unlike past heat waves, this time the phenomenon will be prolonged. Instead of lasting between four and seven days, the new wave could last up to 10 days or more, and could last up to two weeks in some places. Finally, MetSul states that temperatures across the country can reach “marks 10° C to 15° C above historical climatology on some afternoons”.
