In short, when you fall for one of these scams, the victim has his money transferred without consent to an account controlled by the thieves.
Generally, criminals hook their victims through tricks that involve strange links and messages, as well as the kidnapping of personal information and induction into transfers.
Fortunately, there are technology experts who are aware of these movements and are studying ways to protect against scams. One of them is Fernando Brafmann, from the Magav group.
Recently, Brafmann gave an interview to UOL in which he listed some ways to protect yourself against Pix scams. Check it out below!
Before anything else, Fernando Brafmann points out that the best way to protect yourself against Pix scams is not to disclose personal information.
It is precisely through this information that criminals carry out scams and steal money from victims. So, protecting information is the first step.
Furthermore, the expert points out these actions as vital for protecting against fraud on Pix:
Keep only one or two banking apps on your cell phone with sufficient amounts for daily expenses. Try to move large amounts only through a computer;
Have a low Pix transfer limit, both day and night;
Keep cell phone and computer operating systems always up to date. This prevents security flaws that open holes for cybercriminals;
Protect your cell phone with various passwords, biometrics, facial recognition and other security devices. Furthermore, change your passwords frequently;
Avoid at all costs clicking on unknown links or making purchases on sites that do not have a good reputation;
Do not access bank accounts on third-party devices, even if they are people you trust;
Never make a Pix if you are not sure who the transfer is being made to (in the case of criminals pretending to be relatives of the victims, for example);
Never respond to emails or messages from unknown senders.
If you eventually fall for a Pix scam, you must change all your passwords. banking apps, as well as the identification methods you use on your devices.
Then, it is necessary to file a police report and inform the corresponding bank what happened. In some cases, the criminal act can be reversed by the financial institution.
More control and defense mechanisms against financial scams are emerging every day, which are more common and facilitated by technology. In any case, always remain attentive!
