Fried KitKat: Japan's new gastronomic sensation

Do you know what katsu is? This is a technique cooking, very popular in Asian countries, especially Japan. This technique dates back to the Meiji era, a period in which the emperor encouraged the presence and incorporation of Western influences. It was at that moment that pork and fried foods arrived in force on the Japanese islands.

Katsu is nothing more than a preparation method in which seafood or meat is beaten until thin, breaded and then fried in hot oil. The difference with our traditional breading is that it is always made with panko flour and must be served with katsu sauce.

Do you know which dog breeds are the most affectionate?

It looks delicious, doesn't it? After all, there are few foods that don't taste better when breaded. However, can you imagine this technique applied to a sweet, more specifically to KitKat? This is exactly what is becoming a real craze in Japan.

The art of breading sweets is not something new, as even breaded ice cream recipes are gaining ground on social media these days. However, undeniably, the idea of coating chocolate, especially KitKat, represents a curious innovation in traditional gastronomy.

Japan is known worldwide for its love of KitKat, or Kitto Katto, as is the Japanese pronunciation. In fact, it was because of the pronunciation that the idea of transforming the sweet into a katsu came about, since katto is quite similar to the word.

When we stopped to think about it, one would imagine that this curious gastronomic item must have existed for longer, given the similarity of the words. However, the one who made the bold move come true was the Kushi Katsu Tanaka restaurant chain.

It may be that traditional chefs look at this invention with disbelief and aversion, but the truth is that many of us would pay good money to try the delicacy, right?

At Trezeme Digital, we understand the importance of effective communication. We know that every word matters, which is why we strive to deliver content that is relevant, engaging and personalized to meet your needs.
