There are studies that indicate a relationship between musical abilities and intelligence. According to research, people with a higher IQ tend to have greater accuracy when following musical rhythms.
It was found that those with a higher IQ demonstrated greater ease in maintaining a regular beat on a drum.

It is believed that this special characteristic may be related to the importance of the precise moment in the Problem solving and brain efficiency.
A more precise monitoring revealed that individuals with greater intelligence would tend to present a greater amount of white matter in specific regions to solve problems, plan and manage the time.
These elements were also associated with a greater ability to maintain pace. Thus, an enhanced ability to keep pace appears to be intrinsic to the brains of the smartest individuals at a fundamental level.
Professor Fredrik Ullén, neuroscientist and pianist leading the study, highlighted that the task in question does not offer problem solving.
He noted that an irregularity in timing appears to arise at a more fundamental biological level due to a type of noise in brain activity.
The research involved 34 participants who were instructed to replicate the rhythm of a metronome while playing a drum.
After an initial warm-up phase with 20 beats, they were challenged to maintain the same rhythm for another 45 beats after a metronome interruption.
The results indicated that the higher the participants' IQ, the greater their ability to maintain the rhythm when the metronome was inactive.
Professor Ullén highlighted that there is confidence that a component of intelligence has a biological basis associated with the number of nerve fibers in the prefrontal lobe and the stability of resulting neuronal activity from that.
Furthermore, more agile brains are linked to faster perceptual judgments, being more efficient in solving puzzles and analyzing decisions.
For example, people with a higher IQ tend to have an easier time determining the direction in which an object is being moved.
