With the new heat wave that crosses Brazil, air conditioning it went from being a luxury item to a necessity item in some parts of the country. After all, thermometers registered more than 40ºC and the thermal sensation exceeded 50ºC. However, the use and settings of the appliance are still somewhat controversial, as no one talks about what is the ideal temperature for air conditioning.

If the heat is high, we tend to set it to the lowest temperature possible. However, this causes an increase in energy bills – it also has an impact on the environment. So, the question remains: how can we balance all these factors and still cool our home?
If no one has ever spoken before, she will! The Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) pointed out that the ideal temperature for air conditioning, in closed environments, should be between 20ºC and 26ºC. No more, no less.
The information, according to the TechTudo website, is based on studies that highlight thermal comfort for us mammals at these temperatures. However, there are several other factors that must be taken into consideration.
For example, the power of an air conditioner must correspond to the size of the room in which it is located. According to most manufacturers, the ideal is an average of 600 to 800 BTUs for each square meter of the room.
Many people use air conditioning at bedtime, to have a cooler temperature that allows for a more restful rest. However, very low temperatures can be as uncomfortable as very high temperatures. The ideal is to keep the device between 22ºC and 25ºC, since, in the early hours of the morning, it is natural for the thermometer to read lower numbers.
However, when we talk about babies, special care needs to be taken. Air conditioning, by itself, makes the air drier – which gets worse when it is set at low temperatures. This can cause dryness in the child's eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
The million dollar question (almost literally)! O electrical energy expenditure increases a lot when the air conditioning is at very low temperatures (below 19ºC, approximately). This extra effort to further cool the environment results in a more expensive bill.
Therefore, it is recommended to leave the device between 20ºC and 25ºC. It also helps a lot to buy an inverter air conditioner.
