Users of Google Drive They started the week having problems with their files stored in the cloud. According to the user who owned the report, identified as Yeonjoong, all files saved after May 2023 disappeared unexpectedly. He claims that there was no accidental deletion on his part and that no data was moved to the cloud recycle bin.
Furthermore, the recovery steps recommended by Google itself did not work either. “The same thing happened to me! I’m panicking,” said another user on a platform forum. “All my files modified or created since May are gone. Thousands of files and folders. Support has been working on this for over a week,” commented a user affected by the same issue.
Google announced that it is aware of the problem and that more users have reported it. “This is now being investigated by our product engineers (…) we are awaiting an analysis of the root cause and how we can fix it,” Google announced. The support team announced this Monday (27) that it is still unable to “offer a solution”.
Therefore, the only recommendation made by the company so far is not to make any changes to the Drive root folder. This folder is the main one, which lists the other folders and files saved in the cloud.
A definitive fix is expected to be released later this week, as announced by Google. However, even with this measure announced, Google did not inform whether the files that were lost will be recovered. Finally, the tip is not to change any folder or file in Drive until the error is completely resolved.
