According to behind-the-scenes information, Amazon would have chosen to use the Falcon 9 because of its speed and the cost-benefit it represents for its operations.
A SpaceX it is a rival to both Amazon, in the satellite internet business, and Blue Origin, another Jeff Bezos company, this time in the independent space exploration business.
With Project Kuiper, Amazon wants to set up a constellation of satellites equal to or even larger than that of SpaceX. The new system should start operating at the end of 2024.
Until the launches in partnership with SpaceX, Amazon must put its satellites into orbit using other rockets, such as, for example, Blue Origin vehicles.
Still in its announcement, the company highlighted that all these launches contribute to the strengthening of its constellation.
“Additional launches with SpaceX provide even more capacity to support our deployment schedule,” the company said. By 2026, Project Kuiper should have just over 3200 satellites in orbit.
