A school is a group of fish, usually of the same species and age group, that swim as if they were a single individual.
A school is something fascinating to see! The movement of the fish seems to be choreographed, there are hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of individuals that move as if they were under the control of a great conductor.
Generally, the shoal fish are the smallest fish, and they do this for survival. Evolution seems to have contributed to this, making the school a defense against predators. When they swim together, they look like one animal and can confuse or scare away a predator.
Being in a school also helps to find a breeding partner and to locate the best quality and most abundant food, it is also a way to increase feed efficiency.
