The zebra family goes to their first picnic of the year on Firefly Island.
– It's sunny, so it's picnic time! - Dad says. Zag and Zig jump on their way to the picnic shelter. The leaves on the trees have just opened and the forest smells wonderful.
– Hi, Mr. Tico! – they shout to the park ranger. He waves at them and says:
– You are the first to have picnics this spring. You'll find plenty of firewood out there for your fire.
Mom spreads out the picnic blanket and takes things out of the basket. The twins gather firewood and Daddy lights a good fire.
- Look! – Dad is proud of his campfire. He trims some sticks so they have thin ends.
“Now put a sausage on your stick and slowly twirl it over the fire until it's browned,” Dad explains to the twins.
– Whoa! – Zig's sausage catches fire and falls on the burning coal.
– It doesn't matter, dear. Just be more careful next time,” says Mom.
In moments, everyone has their sausages toasted. They put them on a roll and bite them.
- Delicious! – exclaim.
“I love eating outdoors in the early spring sun,” says Mom.
– What a great picnic! – comments Zag. – And Zig agrees.
