Improvement in positioning portrays the evolution of the sport in the country
Brazilian Table Tennis has gained more motivation today with the release of the listing of the new world ranking of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). For the first time in history, five Brazilian table tennis players appear among the top 100 in the world. To date, only five countries had the monopoly of having five or more athletes among the top 100 on the planet: China, Japan, South Korea, Germany and Sweden. In the team ranking, Brazil occupies the sixth position.
The novelty of the list released this Thursday (3) by the ITFF was the performance of São Paulo Vitor Ishiy, champion this year at the Pan American Championship in Lima, Peru: the athlete climbed more than 50 positions and now occupies the 68th place. With the rise in the world rankings, 23-year-old Ishiy further intensifies the fight for one of the four places destined for Brazil at the Latin American Pre-Olympic, between October 25th and 27th, in Lima, at Peru.
Among the top ten in the ranking, the position has not changed: Hugo Calderano is in 6th place with 12,790 points, 675 points behind Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto (5th place). Gustavo Tsuboi also remains in 28th position; Eric Jouti occupies the 80th place and Thiago Monteiro the 89th position.
Among the Brazilian table tennis players, Bruna Takahashi kept the 53rd position she already had in September.
