Scouting is an educational activity aimed exclusively at children and young people. It has a methodology that preaches good actions and attitudes. In addition, Scouts wear uniforms and learn to get by, learning important lessons, especially in outdoor life. Scout Day is celebrated on April 23rd. The priority is team life and learning by doing. Scouts ensure that their activities are a lot of fun.
The founder of the Boy Scouts was the Englishman Baden-Powell, who was born in 1857, and since he was a child he always liked adventure and nature. He was in the military for many years and had the opportunity to see practically the whole world, acquiring great life experience.
It was on one of his trips, more precisely through the countryside of England, that Baden-Powell once saw some boys using, in their games, a manual he had written for army scouts. The manual contained teachings on how to survive in the wild.
Powell then organized a camp in 1907 with 20 boys aged 12 to 16, in which he taught several important things. – such as first aid and observation techniques – and gave tips on how to live safely in the countryside, in the forest and in the City. The results of the camp were so positive that they gave rise to the book “Scouting for boys”. Guided by the book, a group of young men organized themselves and gave rise to the 1st Scout Movement.
From there, Scouting quickly spread to the rest of the world. Today, Scouting is the largest non-formal education movement in the world, non-profit, educational, cultural and charitable: there are almost 30 million participants worldwide!
