The bread roll known as French does not exist in France. The confusion began in the 19th century, when the bread popular among the French was short, cylindrical, with a hard crumb and golden rind (almost a baguette). Meanwhile, in Brazil, the bread had dark crumbs and rinds. When Brazilians traveled to Paris, they returned asking the bakers for bread equal to what they ate in France. The bakers tried to reproduce the recipe and that's how our French roll came.
