Try to imagine men and women, almost 100 years old, running a race of 100 meters dash. The scene is possible in competitions such as the Rio 2020 Masters Pan American Games.
The event brings together 24 sports in 44 modalities. The characteristic of this movement is inclusion. We manage to bring the former athlete back into the sport, and the population as a whole, explains Carlos Fontenelle, president of the Organizing Committee.
He recalls that the city of Rio de Janeiro beat Cali (Colombia) and Cleveland (USA) in the dispute to host the International Masters Games Association (IMGA). The Pan American Masters will be played from September 4th to 13th, 2020. Registration starts in October on the internet and will cost U$100 for Brazilians and U$200 for foreigners.
According to the organizers, a study by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation estimates that R$150 million will be left in the economy site for about 10 thousand participants, divided between athletes, family and friends who accompany the competitors. […]
It is Pan because it is played in the Americas, but people from anywhere in the world can apply. We believe that around 40,000 people will move around the city for a week, so the competition has the support of the City Hall and the entire area of Tourism.
