Interpretation Activity: Recipe

This is a Portuguese activity, for fifth grade students, which aims to show the function and structure of the instructional textual genre: the recipe. This activity also brings a small interpretation of the text that can be ended by a collective text production.

Interpretation Activity: Recipes

Recipe is an instructional text (explains how to do something). A recipe has two clear parts INGREDIENTS and METHOD OF PREPARATION, recipes always have a similar structure:

• Title;
• Ingredients: in this step it has to contain the specific amounts of each ingredient;
• Preparation mode: containing detailed step-by-step information on how to do it.

TEXT: Cheese Bread

Ingredients

• 2 ½ cups of sweet powder
• ½ cup of sour sprinkles
• 1 cup of milk
• ¾ cup of oil
• 1 cup of Parmesan or Minas cheese
• 3 whole eggs
• 1 teaspoon of salt

Preparation mode

• Blend everything but the cheese in a blender;
• Pour everything into a bowl and mix with the grated cheese;
• Bake in greased pie tins for 20 minutes.
