As I left the movie theater, the first thing that came to my mind was: “It really is a story that needed to be told”. A little more was added to my self-view as a Brazilian and to my understanding of how history actually unfolded outside of schoolbooks.
As every movie should be, I was taken on a brief trip that introduces us to the Villas-Bôas brothers: Cláudio, Orlando and Leonardo. The desire for action and adventure when joining the expedition to explore the interior of the country ended up leading them to a hard life, entangled by political intrigues and self-denial in favor of the Indians, but which ended up culminating in an irrevocable victory: the creation of the National Park of the Xingu.
Dog Burger (The year my parents went on vacation) realized this dramatic weight, important for the story, when he turned his lens away from a possible documentary film. Your camera looks for expressions, feelings. Xingu is a film about people, about stories that intertwine and help to tell the story of our country together. […]
The production as a whole pleases. Is very. The locations, photography, soundtrack… Everything seems to cooperate for the beautiful story to be told. […] Many traps were avoided, and a story that spans years was told with unparalleled brevity.
Anyway, it's a movie worth checking out. […]
