Read:
It is the largest representative of the Canidae family in Brazil, weighing up to 30 kilos.
It is a solitary animal, they only form couples in the mating season. In his honor, a typical cerrado plant is named lobeira (solanum lycocarpum) for producing a fruit that is highly appreciated by the maned wolf.
The name “wolf” may sound threatening, but this animal is extremely shy and skittish, making it very difficult to see it in the wild. It is seriously threatened with extinction due to hunting, habitat destruction and road accidents that cross its domain. Hearing the howl of this animal in the nights of the Brazilian savanna is an incredible experience and it is becoming increasingly rare.
