O writer José Maria Eça de Queirós, or better, Eça de Queiros, was and continues to be a magnificent Portuguese realist writer of the 19th century, he participated in the Escola de Coimbra, the school responsible for introducing realism in Portugal. Eça wrote works of great importance for the time, having as main feature the mixture of styles and portrayal of the real society in his literature, using a language that is easy to understand and at the same time with very direct excerpts, full of irony, humor and pessimism.

The writer Eça de Queiros was born in 1845 in Portugal and died in 1900, he died very young, at just 55 years of age. It was in the city of Villa do Conde that he spent the first months of his life, son of Brazilian and Carioca José Maria Teixeira Queiros and Carolina Augusta Pereira Eça, he was baptized only as José Maria's natural son, Carolina's family was governed and in no way allowed the relationship between them, all due to the difference in social class between them.
Some time later, Eça's maternal grandmother died, only after the occurrence that the writer's parents were finally able to marry, after Eça they both had 6 children. Queiros' life was not easy, at only 4 years of age he was given the care of a nanny, this was due to the fact that convergences between the families, after a few months, he was taken to the green corn house, being raised by his grandparents. paternal
Unfortunately in 1855, his paternal grandmother died, with this scenario, Eça was admitted to a school near Lapa, in the port, he left in 1861, at the age of 16, soon after, the writer entered a law school under the influence of his father, in Coimbra, during the time of His passion for college has always been literature, so much so that after graduating Eça did not pursue a career as a lawyer, even with his father's support.
During college, Eça met important and influential people, such as Antero de Quintal, soon after he managed to publish his The first texts in the journal gazeta de Portugal, called “Marginal Notes”, shortly after his death, was published under the title (Prosas barbarians)
With the positive influences of friendships, soon after studying law Eça also work as a journalist and was part of several journalistic periodicals, he was the founder of the periodical “O Distrito da Évora”, passing from the role of journalist to editor and principal.
Eça's Amorosa life was not very hectic, at the age of 40 he met his wife, Domaria Emilia de Castro, 29 years old, whom he married and had 4 children. Unfortunately Eça died at the age of 55, on August 16, 1900, due to the appearance of a malignant tumor in the pancreas.
The writer's works were of great importance to the literary context, his works referred to the day the daily life of the people around you, portraying the scenarios with humor and life scenes Portuguese.
In 1869 to 1870, Queiros traveled to Egypt, a place that had great ideas for his works, in that same year the Suez Canal was being built, the channel served as a great inspiration for the writer, creating in the same year, (The mystery of the Estrada de Sintra, 1870) and a little later “The relic”, 1887.
