O April 18th is the date of birth of a very important Brazilian writer named Monteiro Lobato. He has written many books for children and the best known is the “Site of Pica Pau Amarelo”. Monteiro Lobato Day Activities – Text Interpretation
Emilia swallowed the pill, very well swallowed, and immediately began to speak.
The first thing she said was:
– I have a horrible froggy taste in my mouth!
And she talked, talked, talked for over an hour without stopping.
She talked so much that Narizinho, stunned, told the doctor that it was better to make her vomit that pill and swallow a weaker one.
- No need - explained the great doctor. – Let her talk until she gets tired. After a few hours of talking, she settles down and is like everyone else. This is “retracted speech”, which has to be thrown out.
And so it was. Emilia spoke for three hours without taking a breath. Finally she fell silent.
– Thank you! - Narizinho explained. – We can now talk like people.
Emilia straightened up and began to say in her thin rag doll line:
– Doctor Owl Face …
– It's Doctor Snail, Emilia!
– Doctor Owl Face, this Doctor Owl Face squeezed me a lick.
- Pinch - explained Narizinho.
The girl saw that Emilia's speech was not yet well adjusted, something that only time
could do it. She also saw that she was of a stubborn and silly genius by nature, thinking about everything in a special way all her own.
- It better be like this - philosophized Narizinho. 'Aunt Nastácia's ideas about everything are so well known that you can guess them before she opens her mouth. Emilia's ideas will always be new.
