On Mother's Day, in addition to the traditional cards made by children, a tradition of the region where the holiday arose, in the state of West Virginia, is preserved. In religious homage, the church is decorated with flowers. The custom is to use white carnations to remember deceased mothers and pink or red carnations for those who are alive.
The oldest celebration has its origins in the Ancient Greece where rituals, festivities and other forms of cultural expression took place in honor of women, fertility and motherhood.
The tradition of homage to mothers continued with parties in honor of Cibele, also called Magna Mater (Great mother).

strong brave mother
Not afraid of what lies ahead
Brave, caring and loving mother
Mom you are the light of our life
You bring us warmth and joy
When I'm scared I just think about
a person… mother
Mother a small word, but with an infinite meaning,
because it means love,
dedication, self-denial, strength and wisdom.
Being a mother is not just giving birth, yes,
participate in the life of its generated or created fruits
To mothers from all over the planet
I offer the glow of a comet
For such beauty compare
without ever blinking
by God blessed
by Mary immaculate
From her womb comes life
Mother, you are consecrated.
why God allows
that mothers leave?
Mom has no limit,
it's time without time,
light that doesn't go out
when the wind blows
and rain falls,
hidden velvet
on wrinkled skin,
pure water, pure air,
pure thought.
dying happens
with what is brief and passes
without leaving a trace.
Mother, in his grace,
it's eternity.
why God remembers
– deep mystery –
to take it out one day?
Were I King of the World,
lowered a law:
Mother never dies,
mother will always stay
with your son
and he, old though,
will be small
made from corn grain.
