THE Afro-Christian legend of Negrinho do Pastoreio was told a lot in the nineteenth century here, by all Brazilians who defended the end of slavery. This Brazilian folk legend is well known mainly in the southern region of the country.

The south of Brazil is full of mysteries, bravery and romances, and the shepherd boy is an international legend, in Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil, more precisely in Rio Grande do Sul, the legend of the shepherd boy fills listeners with peace and courage.
the legend of Brazilian folklore talks about an orphan slave, nicknamed Negrinho, who even with all the abuse he suffered said he was protected by his godmother: Virgin Mary.
He was very badly treated by the herdsman, and once he slept and lost his pasture, as a punishment the man placed him on an anthill so that the ants could eat him.
A few days later the foreman returned and found the boy standing, without any bruises or marks, still taking some ants from his face. According to Brazilian folklore he was at the side of the Virgin Mary.
He became a representation of the slaves and peasants of the lands. A protection for working people.
The legend of Negrinho do Pastoreio won a film in 1973 and was directed by Antônio Augusto da Silva Fagundes.
It's a drama based on the work "Legends of the South" in Simões Lopes Neto.

Curiosity about the legend: He is considered the protector of people who have lost something: according to the belief, when you lose something, just ask the shepherd boy who he helps to find.
