Why do insects fly around the light?

Because they get confused. Insects that have nocturnal habits use the light of the moon to guide themselves and know where they are going. When they see the strong light from the lamps, they end up getting confused, because they think it's the light of the moon. So they fly around the lamp trying to correct the direction they want to go.
