pampa

Pampa, have you heard this word? It has indigenous origin and means plain. We are talking about the large fields in southern Brazil, a green area where we can see many cattle, goats and other animals grazing, that is, feeding on local plant species.

The Pampa – also called Pampas or Campos Sulinos – is located in the southern half of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with continuity in part of the territories of Uruguay and Argentina. With 176,500 square kilometers in Brazilian land, it is one of the smallest biomes in our country, but the second most destroyed, only behind the Atlantic Forest.

The growth of cities and agriculture are mainly responsible for the destruction of the Pampa. The grassland vegetation is low and has a very uniform appearance compared to that of a forest, but 2,100 native species live there. To give you an idea, just grasses (grasses), which almost all look the same, are 375 species.

But there is not only grass there, many other plants are native to the Pampas. They give a special color and perfume to this environment. Some are so rare that they are threatened with extinction. […]
