Here in Brazil, it was very common for companies that issue food and meal vouchers to offer discounts to companies that hired them. In this case, these were the so-called negative rates, which greatly benefited the contractors, but which generated certain losses for the workers.
That's because, so that there was no imbalance in the bills, the food voucher company passed on the value of the discount on fees in supermarkets and restaurants. As a result, it was the worker who paid the most for these foodstuffs, as they would be the destination of this transfer.
On the other hand, meals can now become cheaper, as companies will need to pay the full value of the voucher. In addition, it is worth mentioning that any company that offers the payment of these vouchers gets tax discounts. That is, the discount was becoming unnecessary and benefited only a few.
Another detail that drew a lot of attention is the fact that now there will be greater inspection regarding the use of food stamps. This is because several complaints pointed to many deviations in the function of the VR.
For example, some people used the card to pay cable TV bills, video streaming, such as Netflix, and even the gym. But, within the new rules, the misuse of the benefit can generate a debt between R$ 5,000 and R$ 50,000.
