Dance, fight or game of black origin, was introduced in Brazil by the Bantu slaves of Angola, having spread with great intensity in the Northeast of Brazil, especially in the captaincies of Bahia and Pernambuco, during the period colonial. Marked by movements that imitated animals, it was used as an instrument of self-defense. Its name refers to the old farms, known as capoeiras, where blacks used to train. After abolition, capoeira was marginalized, being repressed by the police at the time.
In Recife and also in Rio de Janeiro, there is no synchronized style, being considered a street game, a trick. In Bahia, it takes on a special character, as it is marked by the presence of roda songs and the use of berimbaus and tambourines, which gives it a friendly and less offensive appearance.
Currently, it has become popular and can be found throughout the country, related to activities related to sport and education. The outfit is simple, with baggy pants and cords tied around the waist, which indicate the stage in which the participant is inserted.
