Legend has it that a Chinese sage was supposed to take a jade slab to the Emperor, but halfway there, the sage stumbled and dropped the slab, which broke into seven geometrically perfect pieces. Behold, the sage tried to mend it and, with each attempt, a new figure appeared. After much trying he finally managed to form the square again and washed his emperor. The seven pieces would represent the seven Chinese virtues where one of them would surely be patience. The sage showed his friends the figures he had managed to assemble and each built his tangram.
Introducing the patterns to the children, provide some pieces of colored cardboard or any other firm paper and let them create their own tangram:
Instructions: Cut out the geometric shapes and assemble figures below: Good fun.
